whdh - Boston got the nod to host Marine Week this year, and the Marine Corps didn't come to the Bay State quietly. They're parking their planes, helicopters and tanks all over the city, and anyone is welcome to climb aboard. Several Marine aircraft landed on Boston Common. "It was amazing, it really was, it was really cool," said one local woman. Mayor Menino has declared this week Marine Week in Boston.
"It’s to showcase sort of what the Marine Corps does, partner with the community, and let everybody come out and see what the Marine Corps does," said Major Brandon Gregoire, who is also a Harvard graduate. There will be several displays of hefty military hardware available for the public to take a peek. Hundreds of Marines will also be volunteering to make Boston a better place.
"There's going to be Marines painting murals, we have Marines doing speaking events at local high schools, there’s a family day on Saturday at Moakley Park,” Gregoire said.
The Marines will also be displaying aircraft and tanks at Copley, Quincy Market, the Charlestown Navy Yard, and Moakley Park.
Absolutely.
