The Pacific
HBO
I don’t want to be riding HBO’s dick here, but they are just dominating with their new shows this season. The premier of their latest new classic aired last night and I’m already hooked. From the same Band of Brothers executive producers Tom Hanks (who narrates the opening synopsis of the war) and Steven Spielberg, The Pacific begins the show similar to that of their counterpart, with commentary from the men of the 1st United States Marine Corps Division.
The main characters introduced in the first episode each have their own complex pasts, and immediately a connection can be made with the character of Robert Leckie, referred to by some of his fellow marines as “Professor Lit”, because of his affinity to reading and writing. Through a graphic scene, The Pacific wonderfully captures what war does to the humanity of men, and how much differently people will act when confronted with the idea of death.
The tropical scenery displayed is one not generally thought of as one of a World War II battlefield, the cinematography alone is a reason to watch this show. This show is bound to be full of drama, and if you are a Band of Brothers fan, you should already be watching this show, but if you a fan of war dramas, hesitate no longer to start watching this mini-series.
With that said, I’d like to introduce a new feature we’ll be having on Dez, we’ll call it:
These games will get you about as fucked up as that you’re playing this game in the first place
