The Life and Times of Tim
season 2 on HBO
As to be expected from a network that has dominated the competition in the comedy department recently, HBO brings us another gem. From the mind of creator Steve Dildarian who also voices the shows main protagonist, “Tim” is the story of an average mid-20’s man living in New York. As the show’s title proclaims, the story follows Tim through his struggles dealing with everyday situations in which Tim, is more often than not the loser.
For Curb Your Enthusiasm fans, Tim’s situations may remind you of Larry David’s character, in that Tim just cannot win, despite how right he may appear. Unlike Larry David though, the situations Tim finds himself in are much more over the top, including Tim pretending to be Hispanic for his boss to show that the company he worked for was more multicultural. These story lines can be attributed to the fantastic supporting cast of the show.
Season one introduces this array of characters including, but not limited to, Tim’s Boss played by Peter Giles, who generally doesn’t remember his employee’s names and in the Season two opener “Tim’s Beard” makes Tim stand on a bucket next to a homeless man to poll the offices opinion of who looks worse, “Tim, or the urine stained homeless-man”. Each show is split up into two 15-minute mini episodes, which is perfect for the dry, dead-pan humor the show demonstrates.
Generally this show is not going to be accepted by everyone, and unfortunately will probably succumb to the fate of other amazing show’s who were underrated because of their appeal to only a select audience (cough - Arrested Development - cough). Fortunately for us and you right now, this show is in its prime, and if you can appreciate real humor, new episodes can be seen Friday nights on HBO at 9:30.
